Parish Policy for Arranged for Couples from Other Parishes

Our parish recognizes the importance of the local faith community. We encourage all who prepare for the sacrament of matrimony to do so in the context of their local parish community under the direction of their pastor.

Those who wish to celebrate the sacrament of matrimony at San Francisco de la Espada may do so by complying with the following stipulations.

  • Weddings celebrated at Mission Espada will comply with the normative guide and canonical regulation standard for the Archdiocese relative to preparation.
  • Preparation is to be directed by the pastor of the bride or the groom or the priest or deacon officiating. All canonical documentation to be brought to the parish office at feat 24 hours before the scheduled wedding.
  • Those non affiliated or those living outside the parish are advised and expected to ask for the services of their pastor, parroquial vicar or deacon to of ficiate at the wedding.
  • A confirmed date is set only on reception of a letter from the priest or deacon officiating at the wedding.
  • Practice times are arranged through the parish office.
  • Check with the office for the best time for floral delivery.
  • The fee for the use of the historical mission of San Francisco de la Espada is $200 (paid a month in advance).
  • Hall is available at a separate fee (arrangements made through a representative of the parish finance council) Call the of fice for further information.

Note: Mission San Francisco de la Espada is a living and active parish. Many parish functions are held in the mission. Often the Church is decorated for special liturgical seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost). Seasonal decorations are not removed for the wedding ceremony. Church furniture is not to be moved or removed.

In choosing Mission Espada, you are choosing a 250 year old building. It does not have the comforts of a modern facility. It seats 80 people, does not have side aisles, there is no bridal preparation room, the public bathrooms are on the other side of the mission park. Nevertheless --- it is a wonderful atmosphere and will provide many memories.
