ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE: Assists the Pastor in determining the use of parish property and finances. Chairperson: Carl Walbert 773-2518.

ADULT ENRICHMENT: This Parish Council committee is coordinating the development of Small Faith Communities - groups of people that meet on a regular basis to share their faith, learn about their church, and share the Scriptures and how they relate to everyday life. Other adult education programs are planned as the need arises. Coordinator: Roselyn Weselak 773-2618. Moderator: Fr. Dennis 773-7647.

ALTAR SERVERS: Girls and boys assist at the various Liturgy's, serving about once every 4-6 weeks. This includes Weddings and Funerals. Girls and boys in the 5th grade and above are welcome to serve. New Servers are trained in the Fall. Contact person: Fr. Dan 773-7647.

ALTAR SERVERS (ADULT): Women and Men of the parish assist the Celebrant at Daily Liturgy's; 7:30 a.m., 8:45 a.m., and 12:05 p.m. during the week and at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Contact Person: Fr. Dan 773-7647.

ALTAR SOCIETY: Meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Consists of ladies whose responsibilities include buying and cleaning of altar linens and vestments. They care for the sanctuary and altar including flower arrangements. They set up for weekly Mass and lead a monthly recitation of the Rosary at the Riverwood Nursing Home. Membership is open to all women of the parish. President: Judy Korzen 773-2417

ANNULMENTS: Those who wish to have a previous marriage examined by the Church should contact one of the parish priests. Fr. Dennis is a member of the Tribunal. More information can be obtained through the Marriage Tribunal 847-8769 FAX 847-8772.

BABYSITTING:
Available in the basement of the Old Church during 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass (Sept.-June). Ages 2-4. Staffed by adult volunteers, Confirmation and Middle School Youth Group students. Call Religious Ed. office (773-2002) if you wish to help with this service.

BAPTISMS: 2nd Sunday at 1:30; 3rd Saturday after 4:30 p.m. Mass and other times as requested. (See Baptism in Sacramental Guidelines section.) Adult Baptism: See R.C.I.A..

BEREAVEMENT COMMITTEE: Provides breakfast or brunch put on by the parishioners after a funeral, if desired by the bereaved family. They also help to plan the liturgy for the funeral service and Mass. Coordinator is Mary Pascucci (773-9119). The committee also has a support group to help the bereaved through the grieving process. Coordinators: Ginny & Richard Dietrich (773-5072).

BIBLE STUDY: Various Bible study groups meet regularly on Grand Island. Contact the rectory for more information.

BROWNIES: Program of crafts, field trips and merit badges that help 1st and 2nd grade girls learn more about the world they live in. Troop #207 meets weekly from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's School. Contact Person: Barb Klock 773-7208

BULLETIN: Deadline for all bulletin articles is Monday at 4:30 p.m. at the rectory. All bulletin announcements must be cleared by one of the Parish Staff.

CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP: See Prayer Groups

CHILDREN'S LITURGY COMMITTEE: Meets occasionally with Fr. Dennis to plan the Children's Mass throughout the year. Call Fr. Dennis for details.

CHOIR (ADULT): Sings every weekend from September to June at various Masses. Also on special occasions. Choir practice is every Wednesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 

CHOIR (CHILDREN): Grades 1-5. Sings at special school & religious education liturgies and once a month at a weekend Mass.

CHOIR (TEENS): Sings at the Teen Mass once a month & at junior & senior high Liturgies. Contact: Ted Weselak 773-2618.

CHRISTIAN SERVICE COMMITTEE: Gives the parishioners opportunities through a variety of ministries to extend themselves to others by organizing, developing and maintaining various "outreach" programs in the Parish. They benefit not only St. Stephen's, but also their Grand Island neighbors and St. Luke's Mission in Buffalo. Chairpersons: Steve & Mary Skibinski 773-7891

CLOTHING COLLECTIONS: Coordinates food & clothing collections for Grand Island needy & St. Luke's Mission in Buffalo. There are parish collections and Easter and Thanksgiving drives. Coordinator: Mary Cooke 773-7058

COLOMBIAN SQUIRES: A youth group sponsored by the Knights of Columbus for Catholic boys ages 12 to 18. Contact: Joe Diebold,Jr. 773-1196

ENGAGED ENCOUNTER:
Weekend retreat for couples engaged to be married. For information call the Family Life Dept. 847-2210, or 876-4406.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: most Thursday evenings in the Old Church; 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: Eucharistic Ministers assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass about once a month. Eucharistic Ministers bring the Eucharist to our homebound parishioners as requested. A training session for new Eucharistic Ministers is conducted by the Diocese. EVANGELIZATION COMMITTEE: Nourishes and fulfills a person's desire for a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ, by spreading and refreshing the Word of God, through unique experiences such as missions, retreats, etc. Encourages Catholics to share their faith with others and to reach out to the inactive and unchurched members of the faith. FIRST COMMUNION:
The Sacrament of the Eucharist is administered for the first time at the end of Grade 3, after a minimum of 3 years of preparation. Coordinator: Angela Diebold 773-2002 (See Sacramental Guidelines).

FOLK GROUP: Group of musicians and singers that provide the music for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday Mass (Old Church). Weekly practice. Contact: Mike Ficorilli 773-3482.

FOOD PANTRY: Helps supply food, in emergency situations, for the needy of St. Stephen's Church and the Neighbor's Foundation of Grand Island. A food collection is taken up at Easter and Thanksgiving time. Coordinator: Andy Piacente 773-2414.

HANDICAP:
The Main Church has no stairs and is handicap accessible. There are handicap parking spaces available along the side of the church. The Old Church has several stairs and is not easily accessible to the handicapped. Those who have difficulty walking are encouraged to sit in the first row of the church. Communion will be brought to the pew.

HEALTH MINISTRY: Provides information on health care services for the housebound. Call the rectory 773-7647.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP: Teenagers of the parish (grades 9-12) who gather socially, for service to the parish, and for their own personal growth. Affiliated with the Diocesan C.Y.O. Organization. Parish Youth Minister: Joanne Stiller 773-9586

HOLY NAME SOCIETY: Meets the 2nd Sunday each month following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Spiritual Director is Msgr. Richard M. Cahill. Offers parishioners, 18 years and over, opportunities for social and spiritual fellowship, as well as opportunities for service to the Parish. The activities of the Society are intended to provide for the spiritual growth of its members. Contact: Peter Kuszczak 773-6459.

HOME SCHOOL ASSOCIATION: Comprised of all parents of children enrolled in St. Stephen School. The H.S.A. provides financial assistance for extra-curricular programs and opportunities for parent interaction in fund-raising and social activities. President: Sandy & Jay Englert 773-6502

HOSPITAL VISITS: The clergy of St. Stephen's visits the hospitals once a week. Each hospital also has its own chaplain. Once a week a team of two persons, representing the parishioners, visits the hospitalized. If someone in your family or neighborhood is in the hospital, please notify the rectory.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS:

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS LADIES AUXILIARY: Mary Star of the Sea Council #4752. Meets 2nd Thursday of each month at the K. of C. Hall, 1841 Whitehaven Rd. All wives of Knights are encouraged to join. Meetings are social & spiritual. Contact: Joan Raab 773-3223.

LADIES OF CHARITY:
A national society which consists of women of all ages who help in serving the poor. They make mittens, slippers, and gifts for the elderly. Members of St. Stephen's also make bandages for the American Cancer Society and for missions. They also make favors for patients at Roswell Park Memorial Institute. New members are welcome. The ladies meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month at 12:00 noon. For information: Carol Bellanca 773-2485.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: In order to receive a letter of recommendation to be a sponsor for Baptism or Confirmation, one must: (1) be registered Stephen's Parish. (2) have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. (3) attend Mass weekly & receive Communion on a regular basis. For Parents: they must be sending their children to a Catholic School or Religious Education classes. If married, the ceremony must have been performed in conformity with the laws of the Church. Letters of Recommendation can be given by any of the parish priests.

LITURGY COMMITTEE: Meets once a month to prepare for various liturgical celebrations and special liturgies by discussing the music, decorations, and various needs a liturgy may require. Contact: Fr. Dan 773-4347

L.I.N.K.: An organization of lay ministers reaching out to separated & divorced people through workshops, retreats, days of reflection, social events, & a levels programs. Contact: Perry Figliotti 773-3078 or 847-2211 (day),

LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR CHILDREN: Children grades 1 through 8 are dismissed on Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Liturgy after the opening prayer. They are led by the catechists to the school building where the Scripture readings for that Sunday are shared and experienced by the children. MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP: Group formed for grades 6 to 8 to help them grow socially, spiritually, & in service to the Church & community. Contact: Joanne Stiller 773-9586. Moderator: Fr. Dennis 773-7647.

MINISTERS OF THE SICK: Special ministers of the Eucharist will take Communion to anyone who is unable to attend Mass for a month or longer due of sickness. Call the rectory 773-7647.

MISSION: Mission is a spiritual enrichment retreat which gives opportunities for personal growth, a sense of Church as community, & a better understanding of the Catholic Faith. Held yearly over 8 evenings. Contact: Karen Figler 773-5254

MUSIC DIRECTOR: Oversees the music program, including the Adult Choir, the Children's Choir, and the selection of music for weddings.

R.C.I.A:
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process that initiates adults into the Catholic Church. The Inquiring Period takes place during the fall and the Initiation Process and Instruction takes place during the winter culminating with Baptism, if necessary, and the Rite of Reception into Full Communion taking place and Confirmation at the Easter Vigil. READERS: Readers (lectors) proclaim the Word at liturgical celebrations on Sat. or Sun. once a month and also daily if they desire. A training session for new Readers is conducted by the Diocese. Contact person: Sharon Watkinson 773-6113.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: Age 3 to Grade 12 Preschool - Sun. 9:00-10:00 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m.;  Grades 1-5 - Sat. 9:30-10:30 a.m. or Sun. 9-10 a.m.; Grades 6-8 - Tuesdays 7-8:30 p.m.; home groups vary. Grades 9-11 - Mondays 7-8:30 p.m.; home groups vary. Students attending Catholic high schools in grades 9, 10, and 11 are asked to register in preparation for Confirmation. In 10th grade, they will participate in West Seneca Day; in 11th grade, they attend a retreat & a 6 session course on Confirmation preparation. Registration: Registration for the fall term takes place in May in the Religious Education office. All registrations are on a first come first served basis. Mail-in registrations are accepted only in May & June. New parishioners may register at the time they register with the parish. You must be registered with the parish for your child to attend Religious Education. First time registrants must show a copy of their children's baptismal certificate. First Penance and First Eucharist information is required for children registering for the first time in Grades 4 and up. Fee: A graduated fee is charged. If you are unable to pay the fee, other arrangements can be made. Please DO NOT keep your children from Religious Education because of the fee. RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE: Committee formed to foster more awareness of the Pro-Life teachings of the Church, and to encourage participation in pro-life activities. Affiliated with Diocesan Respect Life Office. Meets monthly. Contact: Gloria Worley 773-2924.

Women and men who help decorate and clean the altar area of the Church. They also assist with setting up the various items needed for Weddings, Funerals, and Sunday Liturgy.

SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD: The Board makes recommendations in the areas of planning, finance, public relations, and policy for the school. It consists of 16 to 21 members of St. Stephen's parish elected to a 3 year term. The board is committee driven and meets as a full board approximately 6 times a year. SPONSOR COUPLE MARRIAGE PREPARATION: Married couples in our parish meet with an engaged couple for 3 to 5 meetings in the home of the married couple. Each session is about 2 1/2 hours and involves sharing and dialogue on selected areas of married life. This takes place after the initial interview with one of the priests or deacon of the parish. USHERS:
Ushers are the first to welcome and greet the Christian community as it gathers in the Lord's House for Liturgy. Ushers also assist in the seating of the congregation, taking up the collection, assisting in the orderliness of Holy Communion distribution, and assist the congregation as it leaves the church.
