Religious Education Program
"Woven in Christ"
ADULT EDUCATION
Jesus played with the children and taught the
adults. This year we are focusing many of our efforts on the adults in our parish and
religious education program.
In keeping with the desire of our Bishop, Henry Mansell, we are currently working with
other parishes in our Region to see that all catechists have participated in the Basic
Catechist Program. In addition, Levels II and III are being offered for those who have
completed the Basic Course. Regular religious education classes are cancelled every 5
weeks so that the catechists and parents can receive catechesis on a variety of topics
from sacraments and prayer to the church. In addition, adult education programs and
Scripture Study are scheduled during Advent and Lenten.
HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our religious education program is based on the premise that there are FIVE THREADS necessary in the Christian Formation process... PRAYING, WITNESSING, SIIARING, LEARNING and PLAYING... all "WOVEN IN CHRIST". This year we are focusing on the thread of SHARING. During a class session in November, we conducted a Service Fair" including a guest speaker who spoke on the importance of sharing our gifts with those in need in our parish, community and the greater society. Various service organizations in our parish and the community set up tables describing their ministry. The students and any parents who came were invited to tour the booths learn about the organization. The high school students were then given 6 weeks off from classes during the months of December and January in order to SIlARE their gifts with the parish and community. Over 1100 hours of volunteer time were donated by our high school youth in a wide variety of projects and activities. We are very proud of our youth.
JUNIOR HIGH
The students in our Junior High program are well into preparing their projects depicting the life and works of Jesus. In addition to LEARNING about Jesus, the students also participated in SHARING their talents for those less fortunate by raising funds during two FUN DAYS for Catholic Charities. The 7th & 8th graders earned well over $300 for Catholic Charities.
ELEMENTARY
Students in Grades Two are prepanng to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 23rd. The children in Grade Three have been invited to attend one of 16 Home Teaching Liturgies with their parents. During these very special liturgies the children and their parents are given explantions on the vestments, books, prayers and vessles used
in the celebration of the Eucharist. They have the opportunity to proclaim the readings and prepare the altar. It has been a wonderful experience for both the children and their parents, who have had as many questions as their children!![]() |
