FESTIVAL COMMITTEE

CONTACT: Parish Office · 777-9116. Ask for current festival chairperson.
IMPORTANCE: The festival committee is a permanent committee whose function is to hold a single, large fund raiser each year. Involvement in this activity provides the parish with additional funds. Proceeds from the festival often offset the cost of unanticipated repairs or the development of additional facilities that are available to the parish community. In addition, there is a spirit of community that is fostered throughout the planning and execution steps.
WHAT: The structure of the festival committee provides for a number of sub-committees that are responsible for the various facets and activities of the festival. Each sub-committee chairperson establishes plans and procedures for their individual function before, during, and after the festival. The sub-committees provide for games, raffles, food, set-up and clean-up as well as an evaluation of the current activity and pre-planning for the next festival. A minimum of 400 volunteers is needed, working within this sub-committee structure in order to produce a successful annual festival.
TIME: Monthly meetings are held by the general committee chairpersons each year. Sub-committee chairpersons are required to attend. This allows for reflection and evaluation as well as the development of new ideas for the festival currently being planned. In addition, commitment to a specific committee in time increments during the three day festival is needed.
SKILLS: A generous commitment of time, talent and energy to support the sub-committee of choice is required. Willingness to work and learn, along with patience and some flexibility are desirable traits.
TRAINING: On the job training is the usual practice. We readily train if skills are lacking. We also accept training as required by new and innovative ideas.

CEMETERY

WHAT: It is a full service cemetery with facilities that provide for ground burial, entombment and cremains enurnment. The combination mausoleum-chapel provides a dignified and comfortable committal space. Landscaping and the redwood sign that identifies the cemetery are designed to remind the survivors of those buried there of the hand of God in everything that happens to us as children of God.
TIME: Although the structure exists providing for a cemetery committee that has supervised the development of the new facility and the maintenance of the old cemetery grounds, general operations are managed by a paid staff.
SKILLS: The cemetery committee is a voluntary organization that is comprised of people who are willing to devote time and talent. A desire to minister to the needs of the grieving is most important. Some ability to project burial service trends into the future is helpful.
TRAINING: No special training is required.
