THE DOMINICAN FATHERS

The Dominican Fathers, who staff and serve the church, maintain a residence at 4844 Trumbull. Formally known as the Order of Preachers, the Dominicans were founded by Saint Dominic de Guzman in France in 1216. Members of the Order arrived in the United States in 1805 and have ministered here since that time. As a religious order of the Catholic Church, the Dominicans place special emphasis on preaching and teaching the Faith. Thus, the Order has as its motto Veritas (Truth).

THE MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY

The Missionaries of Charity, easily recognized by their white and blue Indian-style habits, were founded in 1950 by Mother Theresa of Calcutta and strive to serve the "poorest of the poor" in whom they see the person of Christ. Taking concretely the biblical injunction to trust that God will provide for every need (Mt 6.30), the Sisters conduct a soup kitchen, distribute food and clothing to the needy, and visit the sick and homebound. They also open their convent nightly as a shelter for women and children.

Everyone is welcome to share their gifts, time, or resources with the Sisters in their ministry. Very importantly, if you are in need of any of the services that the Sisters provide, please contact them at (313) 831-1028. The Sisters share what they have with everyone regardless of their faith.

THE SAINT DOMINIC OUTREACH CENTER

Recalling the teaching of Christ to feed the hungry and clothe the naked (Mt 25.36), the parish also operates an Outreach center at 1421 West Warren in conjunction with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Emergency food, personal items and clothing are given out to anyone in need. page 2
