Insurance battle: Should scooters be insured?

THIS IS A MAN FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE. I TOTALLY DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THIS. HE IS FIGHTING WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES, AND ONE LEGAL ARGUMENT IN HIS CASE, COULD AFFECTS MANY OF YOU. I THINK THATS A SLAP IN THE FACE TO ALL OF US. IN FACT,, THAT SLAP IN THE FACE IS ONE LEGAL ARGUMENT OFFERED TO DENY COVERAGE TO A MAN THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH. CONSUMER EXPERT RUTH SPENCER HAS HIS STORY AND SURPRISING LEGAL MANEUVERS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANIES. LIKE A GOOD NEIGHBOR, STATE FARM IS THERE. YOU CAN FIND THAT FAMOUS SLOGAN ALL OVER UTUBE BUT SOME ARE QUESTIONING THAT COMMITMENT IN MACOMB COUNTY COURT. GEORGE THOMAS SENIOR IS THE PLAINTIFF. HIS LIFE BECAME MUCH MORE CHALLENGING IN 2004. WHEN HE FELL OFF A ROOF WHILE ON THE JOB. AND BECAME PARALYZED FROM THE WAIST DOWN. BY 2012 HIS DOCTOR GAVE HIM THE GREEN LIGHT FOR A MORE NORMAL LIFE. HE TOLD ME GO AHEAD AND ENJOY LIFE AND GO TO TEXAS, BY MYSELF, AND GO SEE MY GRANDKIDS. SADLY THAT IS WHEN TRAGEDY STRUCK AGAIN. VANESS HIT BY AN SUV WHILE RIDING HIS MOTORIZED SCOOTER TO A DUNKIN DONUTS NEAR HIS HOME IN CENTER LINE. IT WAS A GOOD DAY UNTIL HIT. THEN THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING. HE SAYS BECAUSE HE IS PARALYZED HE DID NOT REALIZE THE EXTENT OF THE INJURIES CAUSED BY THAT ACCIDENT. HE HAS A LONG LIST OF HEALTH ISSUES HE MAINTAINS ARE CONNECTED TO THAT ACCIDENT. THE MOST PRESSING IS AN INFECTION THIS HIS BONES. HIS MEDICAL TEAM SAID THAT SURGERY IS THE ONLY OPTION. BUT NONE OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES INVOLVED WILL COVER THAT SURGERY. I TOTALLY DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE LEAVING ME HANGING LIKE THIS WHEN I SHOULD BE COVERED. HE PAID STATE FARM FOR AUTO INSURANCE ON HIS VAN. ACCORDING TO MICHIGAN LAW, THAT POLICY SHOULD COVER HIM IF HE IS A PEDESTRIAN. INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT. THE DRIVER THAT HIT VANESS IS COVERED BY FARM BUREAU. AT ONE POINT BOTH COMPANIES CAME UP WITH A SURPRISING ARGUMENT TO DENY HIM COVERAGE. THEIR CLAIM WAS SINCE THIS IS A MOTOR VEHICLE IN MICHIGAN IT SHOULD HAVE HAD INSURANCE. THATS RIGHT. TWO INSURANCE GIANTS IN COURT DOCUMENTS, PUT FORTH THE ARGUMENT MOTORIZED SCOOTERS, OR WHEEL CHAIRS SHOULD BE INSURED. BECAUSE THEY SHOULD BE CLASSIFIED AS VEHICLES. UNDER MICHIGANS NO FAULT ACT. THE ARGUMENT STUNNED VANESS. AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT POLICEMAN NERVE ASKED FOR REGISTRATION. HIS ATTORNEY SAID THAT THE SECRETARY OF STATE DOES NOT REGISTER MOTORIZED SCOOTERS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES DONT SELL SEPARATE COVERAGE. IF THE ARGUMENT GAINS TRACTION, ANYONE THAT USES A MOTORIZED SCOOTER WOULD HAVE TO BUY INSURANCE COVERAGE. IT SAVES STATE FARM LOTS OF MONEY BY MAKE THE ARGUMENT. BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PAY LEGITIMATE CLAIMS. AND THE OTHER HAND, IT INCREASES THEIR PREMIUMS BECAUSE THEY HAVE A NEW SOURCE OF PREMIUM PRODUCTION. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE BE CANT EVEN AFFORD MEDICINES LET ALONE INSURANCE ON A SCOOTER. AS INSURANCE COMPANIES FIGHT TO DENY COVERAGE VANESS IS WORRIED HIS INFECTION WILL GET WORSE AND HE WILL LOSE HIS FIGHT TO SURVIVE. IF I SEEN SOMEBODY SHOT, YOU KNOW, LAYING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WOULD TRY TO GET THEM HELP. I WOULD NOT TRY TO SAY, WELL, WHO IS GOING TO PAY TO GET THE BULLET OUT. SHORTLY AFTER FILING THE ARGUMENT THAT SCOOTERS SHOULD BE INSURED. STATE FARM DECIDED TO WITHDRAW ITS MOTION. BUT WOULDNT TALK TO US ABOUT IT ON CAMERA. ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING FARM BUREAU DECLINED ON-CAMERA INTERVIEW AND RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING IN PART THAT THEY HAVE NOT — ETHICAL OBLIGATION TO PROVIDE A DEFENSE TO ALL CLAIMS ASSERTED BY MR. VANESS, ALL LEGAL DEFENSE AVAILABLE UNDER THE MICHIGAN NO FAULT ACT. AS CURRENTLY WRITTEN. AND YOU CAN SEE WRITTEN STATEMENTS FROM BOTH COMPANIES AT CLICKONDETROIT.COM. JUST LOOK FOR MY RUTH TO THE
